What it is not is a desert car. The Velar has no low-range gearbox, sits on road tyres and has air suspension that does not like deep sand. It handles the mountain tarmac, graded gravel to a beach car park and the paved road to the Jebel Samhan viewpoint with no trouble. It is not for the Empty Quarter, wadi beds or the tracks above Wadi Darbat. Off-road driving is not permitted in it. If you want a premium car that can go on sand, look at the Land Cruiser 300 or the Tank 500 on the 4x4 page.
In khareef the Velar is a good choice for the wet mountain roads: high seating position, strong lights, stable in standing water. Keep your speed down in fog like everyone else.
Rooftop tents and off-road kit are not offered on this car.
